Inspired by the whimsical chaos of Alice in Wonderland, We’re All Mad Here transforms a traditional dining table into an evolving sculptural experience. Existing simultaneously as functional furniture and narrative artwork, the piece expands not only in size but in story.
Designed to seat four, the table extends through the addition of two custom leaves, accommodating six and ultimately eight guests. As the table expands, so does his imagination. A billowing stream of thought escapes from beneath his iconic hat, revealing the wonderfully chaotic world of Wonderland — Alice, the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, teapots, pocket watches, “Drink Me” bottles, and “Eat Me” treats drifting through his consciousness, blurring the line between reality and fantasy.
When fully assembled, fragments of the original portrait — including portions of the Mad Hatter’s eyes and hat — reconnect across the extended panels, restoring visual continuity while simultaneously exposing an entirely new dimension of the character.
We’re All Mad Here explores the relationship between function, storytelling, and interaction. What begins as a portrait evolves into a journey inward, where furniture becomes sculpture, utility becomes narrative, and every extension invites viewers further down the rabbit hole.
"As the table grows to welcome more guests, it metaphorically opens the door to deeper imagination."
